Rising energy costs are starting to hurt the US economy.
Today Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said economic growth has been trimmed
by about three quarters of a percentage this year, due to the surge in crude oil prices.
Crude hit a record of fifty-five dollars a barrel during trading today.
Greenspan said the negative impact of the increase is nowhere near the
oil-shock of the 1970s but it is significant.
And low inventories of crude are like to mean a cost of the winter for
the New Englanders and others who heat their homes with oil.
NPR's Chris Arnold has the story from Boston.
