Bill Gates announced yesterday that in two years he will be stepping down
from his day-to-day role at Microsoft to focus on his philanthropic foundation.
NPR's Wendy Kaufman reports.

The fifty-year-old Gates will continue to serve as Microsoft's Chairman and
as a company advisor even after he leaves for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Gates said he is not retiring but he made it clear it was time for him to move on.

Referring to Microsoft and his foundation which works primarily on global health and education,
he said, "I'm very lucky to have two passions that I feel are so important and so challenging."

今回のリスニング、今に始まったこっちゃ無いんですが、何と言うか、その、隔世の感を感じたワケですな。

アメリカの高成長ハイテク株の代表として長いこと君臨し続けた Microsoft社ですが、ＮＰＲのニュースで
"corporate behemoth" なんて表現を使われるほどの大企業（良くも悪くも）になってしまったということ。

そして、その生みの親であるビル・ゲイツ氏がついにその第一線から退く、というニュースは、やはりとても
感慨深かったのです。（別に彼の知り合いでも何でも無いんだけどね・・・ f(^^);;）
